Everyone has felt pain during their life,
but for the millions that suffer from the various types of
Chronic Pain their choice of pain relief can be critical. No
only can it affect the positively quality of their life but
the wrong choice can be detrimental to their long term health.
The difficulty that one faces is what to use.
The choices typically fall into one of the following
categories; Acetaminophen, Alternative therapies, Narcotics, Natural pain relievers, NSAIDs,
Surgery.
Even though our objective is to make the pain
stop the choices that we make will often impact other aspects
of our health and the costs in both money and quality of life
can vary tremendously.
For example, NSAIDs are commonly used for
chronic pain but when taken longer than 1 to 3 months 1 in 4
people will develop an ulcer. For some surgery may be the best
alternative but may be cost prohibitive.
What option is best for you will depend on what
is causing your pain, your personal condition, your personal
preferences, near and long term costs and your related medical
history. These should all be discussed with your health care
provider.
